I'd wanted to learn a language for a while and choose French for my GCSE, but started to regret it when I was left behind in class. It was once I started revising with Claire's lessons that I quickly caught up and became more confident, eventually getting grade 8 - very happy!

  • Where can I find GCSE English past papers?
The best place to find past examination papers is on your examination board’s website. Usually, there are lots of easy-to-access papers available, along with mark schemes and reports from examiners. Here are a few links: English GCSE AQA Past Papers English GCSE Pearson Past Papers English GCSE OCR Past Papers English GCSE WJEC Past Papers Your examination board website should have some free access to sample answers from previous examination years. You may find that there is commentary, too, which helps to explain the grades.
  • How to revise GCSE English?
Well, apart from re-visiting these lessons, there are lots of things you can do. You should read widely – for Language, non-fiction texts are good, such as newspaper articles, as well as fiction, such as poetry and short stories. For Literature, you will need to know your set texts well – re-read these, make notes, highlight key sections. You can also look at past papers, examiners’ commentaries, and mark schemes, alongside sample answers. Test yourself on literary terminology, too. English is skills-based so the more practice you get, the better. Learning some useful quotations from key texts will be helpful, particularly if these can be applied to different types of question.
  • Can I move from GCSE Level 5 to Level 6, or higher?"
I suggest you look at mark schemes and see what the differences are between different levels. Looking at sample answers for a range of responses is helpful as well, especially if these include examiner comments which help to justify certain grades.
  • What is English language GCSE
Students sitting their GCSE (9-1) English Language assessment will sit two exams. ... The Reading assessment makes up 50% of the grade and writing assessment makes up the other 50%. In each exam, learners will respond to reading questions on the unseen texts and one writing task. By comparison, the English literature GCSE is more focused on developing knowledge and understanding of prose, poetry and drama texts.
  • What is the English literature GCSE?
Students taking their English Literature GCSE will need to explore literature and read a wide range of classic literature, which is designed to introduce the depth and power of the English literary heritage In GCSE (9-1) English Literature, the specific texts per exam board may vary, but students will need to study a modern prose or drama text, a 19th century novel, poetry and a Shakespeare play.
  • How to pass English GCSE
